OUR HISTORY

MGS, INCORPORATED FOUNDED IN 1962

MGS was founded in 1962 by Roland Gehman, Roland successfully led MGS over three decades in which time his qualifications as an inventor and professional engineer combined with his high personal standards provided the foundation for the culture of innovation, determination, and integrity that thrives at MGS today.

Over the years, MGS has satisfied numerous requests to design and manufacture trailer products for customers who had a specific need.  From these requests, MGS has developed an every-growing, diversified list of product lines and markets.

The combined effort of the MGS team has built a reputation of excellence and expertise in the light and medium-duty trailer industry.

In 1995, Roland began the leadership transition to his youngest son Andy. Andy's lifetime work experience at MGS coupled with his Undergraduate and Graduate management education supported his desire to build upon the foundation started by his father.

By 1999, the transition was completed, and a newly shaped company was being formed. The retooled company began using a planning process as a guide for continuous growth. This planning process has been refined over the years but is still in place. The key tenet to the process is in making sure that our plans and strategies are aligned with our Mission...providing the best total solution to our customers.

In 2014 MGS purchased the Maxey Companies consisting of Maxey Manufacturing, Maxey Trailer Sales & Truck Fitting, and Maxey Transportation. Adding the Maxey Companies allowed MGS to expand its manufacturing capabilities, expand its retail presence and better support our customers in the western side of the country.

Carl R. Maxey
March 3, 1960 - October 22, 2021

2021 marked the passing of our friend, business partner and coworker Carl Maxey. Carl was a member of our Leadership Team since 2014 when we acquired assets from Maxey Companies, and he became a partner at MGS Inc.

He had a way of connecting with almost everyone he met. Carl was well known for his work in the Fort Collins community and the trailer industry, as a board member and President of the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM). I am very grateful that our paths crossed all those years ago. He has had a significant impact on me personally as well as contributing to the strategic journey at MGS.
